THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT QUESTION. [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesday.

The following resolutions were passed by the Local Bodies Conference yesterday :—: — Moved by Mr Gisborne and seconded by Mr Daniels :—": — " 1. That the Crown lands and buildings should be rated, and the proceeds equitably distributed among the local governing bodies in the district in which the rate is raised. 2. That County Couucils be subsidised by the colony at per mile of main road maintained by them. 3- That County Councils should have a representative on the Waste Lands Boards, i. That, in counties consisting chiefly of goldfields, the 20 per cent, land revenae taken away by the Financial Arrangement Act, 1880, should be restored to the Comity Councils." Proposed by Mr Carson and seconded by Mr Philips, " Tnat the subsidy of £ for £ on expenditure on new works, approved by the Government, be granted 1 tHe local bodies, for the construction only of new works as roads, bridges, &c." Moved by Mr Linton, seconded by Mr Carson, " That the Chairman and member* of the Conference be a deputation to the Government with the resolutions passed by the Conference, and press upon them the advisability of the principle embodied thereitf being legislated upon during the coming session." The folio wing resolution - wa§ also agreed to :— " That the 1 1th clause, of the Land Act Amendment Act, 1879; should be repealed, so that the whole half-yearly instalments on deferred payment of land should be handed over to the County Councils, for road making within the block dealt with, as provided ia the Land Act, 1577, clause 29." . „ A vote of thanks was passed <to the Chttirinan and Mr. M.c Arthur, who originated the Conference. • i .
