LOCAL GOVERNING BODIES. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH, PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Saturday.
The Hon. W. Giaborne has given notice that during the present sitting of the Confeience of Delegates representing local Efoverning bodies in New Zealand, heVill move thf following motions : 1. That the Crown lands should be rated, and the proceeds equitably distributed among the local governing bodies. 2. That the County Councils be subsidised by the colouy at per mile of main roads main* tamed by such councils. 3. That County Council Chairmen be ex officio members of the Waste Lands Board, having jurisdiction over the Court. 4. That tha 20 per cent, of the land taken away by the Financial Arrangements Act, 1880, should be restored to the County Council. At to-day's meeting of the Conference, the following motion, by Mr McArthur, was carried :—" That it is absolutely necesssary that some assistance in the shape of subsidy should be given to local bodies, to enable them to complete the construction of roads within districts heretofore sold by the Government, and wholly or partially settled, the Government having failed to provide for these npceswiry works out of the proceeds of the sale of such district in time* past."
