Wellington, Last Night. The Customs, revenue for last month amounted to £18,620. At the Hutt Magistrate's Court to-day, Joseph Skervitt, ahas Black, was committed for trial for stabbing a man named Dewar. At an election for Borough auditors Messrs Riddop and Bishop were elected. Complaints are made of delay in tendering the San Francisco mail steamer at New Plymouth last night, she having been detained eleven and a-half hours.
Dunedin, Last Night. Mr Proudfoot has offered his tramway to the City Council for £130,000. At a meeting of the committee of the Chamber of Commerce to-day, the prospectus of the Meat Export Company was laid before the meeting. Capital, £15,000, which it was agreed to increase to £20,000. Ross, the prisoner who made his escape, got an extra six months. A cabman named Brennan was found drowned in Pelichet Bay. It is believed to be suicide, caused by domestic disagreement.
Is the Court of Appeal a decision of Vice-Chancellor Bacon's, involving a very important point of law was recently reversed. The plaintiff (Mr Liddel), brought an action against the defendant (Mr M'Dougall) vith regard to the latter' s liability in respeot of a letter in which he recom.tuen.ded a person named Thornton as a desirable tenant for a coffee-house, at a rental of £400 a year. Thornton turned out to. be a person of small 'means, and failed to carry on the undertaking. The Vice-Ohancellor dismissed the aotion, but theiy lordships reversed his decision, assessing damages at £260,
