Auckland, Last Night, Joen Lovde, laborer, Waitakeri, working on the contract of the Kaipata railway was riding on a ballast waggon, when He fell, and two trucks passed oyer his legs crushing both friimtfully. He was brought into the hoapital,but ' was so prostrate from the neryous shock that he could not undergo the operation. The flow of blood was been staunched, and the wound, bandaged, but he sank rapidly and died. Five young men, who have been in the habit of creating disturbances in Auckland hotels kept by widows and those unable to protect themselves, were sentenced to two months' imprisonment for violent assault on Archibald Finlayson in Mrs Moller's hotel. A boat containing the Rev. J. Moulten and his daughter, 14 years old, was capsized. The daughter was drowned.
Wellington, Last Night. It ia rumored that a f urfcher release of Maori political prisoners is likely to be made almost immediately, and that the Hinemoa will bring them up from the South before going for members of Parliament.

The stone basin is almost empty, and it is estimated that there is only three or four daya 1 supply in the distribution basin. A deputation from the City Council waited upon the Colonial Secretary in reference to the Contagious Diseases Act. The Secretary replied that he saw no reason why the Act should not be brought into force here, as had been done with so much good in Christchurch. However, he thought it would be better to ascertain the cost before proclaiming the Act. The deputation promised they would obtain the information immediately.

The stomach pump was applied, and he is now recovering, itic-hardson was recently rejected by a girl in Lyttleton, which seems to hare affected his mind.
