AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKET.
Mr Alfred Kuckland's Weekly Report.— At the Grc)hound Y.irds on May 13, fodder was plentiful, oaten hay bringing from 2s to 3s gd ; meadow, ?s Gd to 3s gd ; and < lover, 4s 6d per cwt ; mangolds, is gd, and turnips, 2s 3d per sack; m.iuo (weavily), 2s 6d to 2s 9d; xl 3 bags barley, 2s 2d : 100 baps oats, 2s 2d per bushel ; 10 tons Canterbury fluke potatoes, £4; and 10 tons boncdust, £5 7s 6d per ton. A large number of horsei were yarded, and those of a good stamp rcadilv brought good prires, draught colt* bringing from £17 15s to £32 10s ; heavy draught (broken), £20 to £47 ; spring-cart horses, £16 to £$;; hacks .md light harness horses, £$ 15s to £14 10s each ; a pair of carriage horses, £22 each. At the Haymarkct on Tuesday, hides and .skins were oftVred m increased quantity ; Lite prices were fully sustained. At Drury, on Wednesday, a large numberof cattle of all classes were > arded. D.ura cows at their calving, and well-bred heifers, from one to two years olu, were in fair inquiry; all other descriptions of cattle were dull of sale, at a serious reduction in value. At Krmucra, on Thursday, young dairy cattle at their calving were in brisk inquiry. Store cattle numerous, and dull of sale at nominal values. Fat cattle in full numbers — far m excess of requirements ; prices extremely irregular. Prices for good quality ranged from 22s to 26s the ioolbs. ; but middling and inferior qualities were uniformly at low values, fehecp in full number, with a ste.idy demand from 2^dto2jd the !b., and a few lambs of choice qu iltty brought extreme prices. Messrs Hunter and Nolans Weekly Report. — Horses ■ There was a. noticeable improvement in the horse sale at the Durham Yards, on Friday, and horses of. 1 good stamp sold freely. There was an average number entered, and most in were disposed of, either at the hammer or privatelj after the conclusion of the sale. We quote : Hacks, Ls 15s to Lr2 17s 6d; light harness, £i\ to L.2! ; heavy draught, L5O. Wool, skins, and hides : The supply has been large, with a steady demand. Caltskins, 3d ; hides, 3d to 3£d ; sheepskins, is nd to 3s 3d; tallow, 22s gd • greasy wool, 7§d. Cattle : At Newmarket, on Tuesday, the yards were well filled with all descriptions of stock. Dairy and store stock are unaltered in value, and there remains an unsatisfied demand for young dairy cows at their profit. Heef in full numbers, and sold from 27s to 30s per ioolbs. We quote : Calves, 20s to 42s 6d ; yearlings, from L 2 12s Cd to 1,3 ; two-year-olds, L 3 17s 6d to L4IOS; grown steers, L 5 12s 6d. Sheep: Ihe yards were completely klled on Tuesday. Bidding was brisk throughout the sale, and there w.is a slight advance on last week's prices, a cargo from Wanganui averaging 15s gd. Lambs : Few \arded, with no alteration in prices. Pigs. A moderate number yarded, small porkers selling well.
