The French Government and Tunis. Paris, May 14.

M Bartholemy St Hilaire, Minister for Foreign Affairs, made a further statement in the chamber to-day, as to the intentions of the French Goverrraent towards Tunis. He announced that it had been decided to demand substantial guarantee from tho Bey the permanent quietude of the TunisAlgerian irontier would be secured. He further made a complete disavowal ot the belief which exists that the policy of the Government was directed towards the annexation of Tunis by France.
