Auckland, Last Night. The steamship Zealandia, with the inward San Francisco mail, left San Francisco on. Sunday last, Bth inst,, one day after time-table date. H

Admitted to Pratique. The family who , has been detained in quarantine at Motuihi Island since arrival of the City of New York was released yesterday upon the order of the Health Officer. All danger of further infection has been considered at a end.

Agricultural Returns. The work of compiling the population I returns of the provincial district has I been temporarily suspended, in order that the agricultural statistics may be tabulated and issued with the least possible delay.

The Crown Solicitorship. It is stated on good authority that there is not the slightest foundation for the statement that the office of Crown Solicitor was offered first to Mr Tole, and subsequently to Mr Lusk. Criminal Calendar. New Plymouth, Last Night. In the Supreme Court, O'Shane, for shooting a horse, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment; Bakeora, ja, native, for stealing sheep at Cape Egmont, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. That concluded the criminal calendar, and the Judge discharged the jury.

Fatal Accident. Haw-era, Last Night. - A young man named -John Ferry, brother of the landlord of the Occidental Hotel, Wanganui,' was .smothered last night. He was camped near an embankment, when a portion of the earth fell and buried him as he was lying within his tent. Death ensued before he could be extricated.

Wreck of the Tararua.— The Inquiry, DUiVEDiN, Lasb Night. The chief officer's examination will likely last the better part of to-day.
