Timaru, Last Night.
The schooner Amaranth loaded with coals from Greymouth, was driven ashore to-day and wrecked. All hands escaped. She is owned by Guthrie and Larnaoh, and is insured for £500 in the South British.
Wanganui, Last Night. Thomas Carroll, a farm labourer, was run over and killed at Kaiwi by the" Northern train on Saturday night. It is not known whether the man was walking on the line, or had laid down. The accident would not have been known at the time had the driver not happened to notice something dragging on the engine.
Gisborne, Last Night, Alexander Buchanan, proprietor of the Ortnoud Hotel, met 'his death last night by a fall from his horse. He leaves a wife and five children. ; , - Walker's. Hotel, Awanui, West Coast, has been burned down. It was insured for £300 in the South British.
