Mr Brookfield has been appointed a judge of tho Native Linds Court, the intention being 1 that in future in cases which involve such large interests two judges shall sit, one versed in law, another in Maori matter*. Mr "Blackotfc has reported in favour of Calliope Point for the big dock bite for Auckland. In the stomach of a beast from Matam.ita, killed by an Auckland butcher, the following scraps of iron were found : — 7 chain links about an inch long, 7 stones of various si^es, 15 thick screws (some two inches in leDgth), 21 large nails (some 3-inch), S4- iron and tin tacks, 2 bolts and washers, and several pieces of Hhftrp pointed tin. To-day's telegrams fiom the South contain nothing additional re the wreck of the Tararna. The body found on the beach was identified as that of Mr Bailey, a waiter, of Dunedin. Superintendent Thompson has received a telegram stating that a destructive fire has taken place amongst some stacks of oats at Fen Court, near Cambridge on Saturday night. Incendiarism is suspected. The Superintendent has decided to despatch a detective to the assistance of the local officer to-morrow.
