AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKET.

Mr Alfred Buckland's Weekly Report.— At Mr A. Buckland's sale, at the Greyhound Yaids, on Saturday 15th instant, fodder was plentiful, meadow and oaten hay fetching from 2s to 3s 6d per cwt., and 55 bags of mai/o were disposed of at 2s 5d per bushel. An unusually large number of horses were yarded, being principally from Wanganui, and of a useful stamp, although the bidding was languid. "With few exceptions, all were satufactonly disposed of at prices ranging for medium draught and light colts, Ll2 to L 25 ; useful harness horses, Ll3 15s to L 2 4; light hacks, L 6 to Lio; and several woll-bred vreight-carricis ranging as high as L3O — At the Haymarkct, on Tuesday last, hides were in full numbers, and of exceptionally good quality. Prices were rather lower than have lately ruled, taking the quality into account, and ranged from 2sd to 316. the lb. Sheepskins were in average supply, and maintained their value; they brought irom is 9d to 2s 5d each. Wool, 6|d to 7Jd the lb. Tallow, 19* the cwt. — At Pokeno, on Monday, about 70 cattle were yarded, mostly calves and yearlings, and those were readily bought by the settlers in the neighbourhood.— At Drury, on Wednesday, there was an unusually large sale of all descriptions of stock. For young cattle and quiet cows near calving, there were many buyers, and more stock were required. Grown cattle were comparatively dull of .iud many were withdrawn, although the bidding- was fully higher than has lately ruled — At Remuera, on Thursday, a full supply of dairy cattle met with :i steady demand, at an advance on late pi ices. Store cattle were also in iull supply, and better bred than usual. Fifty head two-year-old steers brought an average of L 5 13s 6d. Fat cattle were in less than usual supply; 120 head yarded. Bidding was dull throughout, although last week's values were fully sustained. Intcriorly-f.ittcd cattle were at 225, but well-fatted aged oxen from 25s to 27s the loolbs. Sheep were in moderate supply— 440 yarded ; last week's values, z^d to 2jd the lb. for wethers, was the ruling piicc. Pigs of a good class were again in full number, but at lower values ; the large number of pigs recently brought forward has checked the rise that might otherwise have occurred in the price of cattle. Messrs Hunter and Nolans Weekly Report. — Horses : The holidays have materially affected the live stock market, and comparatively little business has been done. The sale held on Saturday was rather a quiet affair, less than the average number having been entered. Bidding was slow throughout the sale, and a smaller number than u&ual changed hands, at no noteworthy alteration in value. — Cattle : The supply has been limited, but the demand steady. Dairy and store stocks were unaltered in value. Top sorts of fat beasts were at last week's quotations, but foranimals insufficiently fattened vendors had j to submit to a slight decline. — Sheep : There wai by no means a largo supply, but prices receded as comp.ircd with last week. Although the competition was steady throughout the Newmarket sale, prices receded 4d per 81bs. Lambs were I very scarce. — Pigs : Very few yatded.
