Woodbrook, in addition to winning the Liverpool Grand National (of 700sovs., added to a aweepstake of 20sovs. each, about four miles and-a-half), on the 25th March last, won the Town Plate in 1878 at Roscominon ; the Midland Counties Plate at Longford ; and the Sir Roger De Coverley Handicap at Kilkenny. In 1879 he won the Dublin Metropolitan Plate, of 170 sovb, in April, and the similar race in May. In 1880 ho ran unplaced in the I iverpool Grand National (list 71b), won by Empresn, (lOst 71b), won the Curraghmore handicap, of 95bovs. Regal who ran eecond to Woodbrook won the Liverpool Grand National in 1876, carrying list 31b, and beating 18 others. In 1577 ran unplaced in the name race (12st 21b), won by Austerlitz (lOst 8lb). In 1879 ran unplaced In the same race (list 101b), won by The Liberator (list 4lb). In 1880 ran unplaced in the same moe (list 111b), won by Emprops (lOst 71b) ; won the Croydcn Grand National Steeplechase, of 437 povs, carrying 12st 71b, and Thomfield, who passed the post third won a few flat races in his younger days. In 1879 he won one flat raco, and in 1880 he won the Croydon Grand International Hurdle Race, of 947 sove, carrying lOst 121b, and boating eight others. Palmer, the Au tralian cricketer, having let hiB billet, has deoided to accept an engagement as a club professional bowler, and having hit choice between New Zealand and South Aubtralia, will probably locate himself in Adelaide. John Bright who had charge of Hanlan before his race with Tnckett, and " showed him up " on the day, avers that when Hanlan had rowed about a mile in the race with Trickett, he signalled that he was done and could go no further. Bright therefore made signs to Ward, who was on the nmpire's boat, and Ward responded to the effect that Hanlan was to keep on at all hazards. Directly after this Tnukett cracked, and the nai rowness of his escape caused Haulan to become overjoyed, and to disport himself so remarkably above Hammersmith. — Sydney Bulletin.
