AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKET.
Mr Alfred Buckland's Weekly Report.— At the Haymarket, on Tucsdaj' last, hides sustained the improved values of the previous week. All sound hides ranged from jjd to 4 i-i6d the lb Sheepskins were in full supply, and brought from is 6d to as sd each. Wool, in grease, 6|d to 7|d the lb. Tallow, 21s 6d and 22s 6d the cwt. — At the Waiuku cattle sale, on Saturday, April 2, there was the usual muster of stock. Dairy cows were dull of sale, but other descriptions of stock in good inquiry. A few pens of sheep and pigs also found ready buyers. — At Pukekohe, on Monday, above 100 he.id clttle were yarded. Young calves and dairy cows \farc comparatively unsaleable. All other kinds of stock in request, and all brought forward were sold. — At Remuera, yesterday, dairy cows at their profit were in good request at improved values ; they brought from £7 ;os to £r\ each, but backward cows were lower in price than last weak. A large number of joung store cattls were yarded, and met with a steady demand at slightly higher values th.inhavc lately ruled. Fat cattle were short of mjuiJcmenlt, 110 only being yarded. Prices rallied on last week's 1 values 5s per ioolb., and ranged from 26s to 10s ; good steers brought from £0 to 4o ,£l3 10s each. Fat sheep were in full numbers ; between 700 and 800 were yarded. Pi ices advanced 4s per he.id, bringing fully 3d per lb. Napier wethers, fatted here, brought from 14s to 17s each. Few lambs were yarded, and those brought 14s each. Pigs were also in good request. Messrs Hunter and Nolans Weekly Report. —Horses : Dulness has characterised the market, perhaps attributable, in a great measure, to the fact that not many of a really good stamp have been submitted. The entries for disposal by auction were not so numerous as on the previous week, and at times throughout the sale bidding was slow : eventually, a clearance was effected at no noteworthy alteration in quotations. — Cattle. — Themarket has becu fairly animated. Prices have had an upward tendency, .md all offered have sold at prices much in favour of the vendor, as compared with the last few weeks. At Newmarket, on Tuesday, and at P.ipakura, on Wednesday, there was a fair muster of stock, but insufficient for requirements, and there remained an unsatisfied demand for all descriptions, Dairy cows have advanced in value from 10s to £1 ; stores have advanced in 10s per head, and for a few fat beasts 20s per loolbs. — Sheep were in adequate supply, and coricsponding demand. For wethers there was an advance of 2s and ewes is each. Lambs were scarce, and sold at from 7s to 12s 6d. — Pigs. — There was a marked idcreasc tn the supply, but a brisk demand existed, and high prices were given.
