Auckland, Last Night.
At the Police Court to-day, Wm. Baker, watchmaker, was fined £10 for threatening Mr "Watson with a revolver. ■ The Board of Education have accepted the tender of William Gillett (£265) for the erection of a new school building at Mangatete; also, the tender of David Henderson (£345) for the erection of a school at Paterangi. An application for a shed and school-bell at Ohaupo was granted. A gum-digger named Thos. Foughey, at the Barrier, was killed by a kauri tree falling across his tent. The Orakei Parliament was opened to-dayv There were not many natives present. Paul gave a Jong opening address on, the Treaty of Waitangi and Kohimarama. >He defended Te Whiti, and said the Europeans thought he was a madman, but he could show there was more justice in his attitude than he was credited with.
