HARAPEPE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
The roimul meeting of householders was held in the school-bouse on Saturday, 26th February, at 4 p.m. Ouly seven settler-* put in an appearance, and Mr J. H. Thompson w.ia appointed chairman. The following leporfc and statement of account's were l.tid before the meeting :: — '• The Htrapepe School Committee submit the following report at the end of the third year dining which the school has been main t<iiiied. School duties have been carried on throughout the year without intermission other than the authorised holidays. The lato teacher, Mr Ortnsby, having been transferred to M'ing'apiko at his own xequest, Air A. C. Ballaneo was appointed in his stead, and has condnoted the «ohool since the winter vacation. Authority has been received from the BoarJ of Education for the appointment of a teacher of sewing, and it will be for the new committee to act in the matter. Daring the year the school buildings have been painted, and tank and spouting erected ; the grounds have been well laid down in grass ; trees pi tnted and fenced ; all of which h is involved a considerable expenditure, so that the balauce to credit amounts only to 6s Id. A statement of accounts, showing full details of expenditure, is attached hereto. In conclusion, thd committee must express their regrat at the apathy which exists among some puvnts as to the education of their children, and would urge all to lake alv,mtd.<re of the opportunities afforded, leminding them that the school is maintrii'iod at considerable annual expenditure for the sole benefit of the children of the distiict, and that benefit c in only be !itt^in°d to the fullest extent hv the regular and punctual attendance of fvery child in the district fit to go to school.
