Mining News.

There is very little to report from the Mines. The prospectors obtained some good stone on Tuesday, from the leader in their winze, quite equal to anything which has yet been taken out. The Waitoa claim started operations yesterday, under the management of Mr C. McLean, who has taken charge of this mine, as well as the Waikato. Several of the claims have stopped work, pending the erection of the battery, the material for which, is being rapidly got ready at the Thames, and the contractors expect to make a start upon the ground, this week. Mr Livingstone is making rapid headway with his contract for the formation of Whitakar street which will be a great improvement to the appearance of the township.
