TE AROHA.
A few days ago the manager of the Bonanza received orders to stop work, pending a meeting of the Directors, the reason for this has not transpired, though various causes have been rumoured, the principal one being that it is on account of the meeting of shareholders called in Auckland, lapsing for want of a quorum. Whatever the reason considerable dissatisfaction has been expressed at the conduct of the Directors in stopping work, even temporarily in a mine of so promising a character as the Bonanza, especially as they had ample funds in hand to continue operations. It has,no doubt, had a very depressing effect upon the field. lam glad to be able to state however, that work will be resumed almost immediately, and that, whatever the cause of the stoppage it was not from any want of confidence in the prospects of the mine. Really good stone is being got in the Morning Star claim, and from a test yesterday, the lode appears to bo materially improving in vslue. The Luck, at lnbt, and several J other claims alao report favorable prospects. Our Boys ?till continue to get good prospects from their leader, and aro going to send a trial crushing to the Thames. In the to^ nship, the principal topics of conversation, are the erection of the Battery, and tho forthcoming races. Messrs Price Bros., tho contractors for the erection of the Battery, expect to have sufficient material on the ground to make a start on Monday, and from the well-known character of this firm, there is no doubt the work will be quickly and faithfully completed. A meeting of the Shareholders is to be held at O'Halloran's Hotel on Saturday evening, for the purpose of electing Direc* tors and other necessary purposes. Tho Races, the entries for which I send you, have brought forth good fields, and, as it is expeoted that most of them will accept, wo shall doubtless have a good days aporfc. At the sale Of privileges the othor day, the Publicans' Booth was sold to Air Quinlan, for Ll6 ; also the Good Templars' Booth, L 2 ; Cards of thp races Mr Johnson, Ll 19s. Every effort is being made by tho Committee to ensure success, and all your Waikato readers who are interested in Ta Arohd, cannot do better than combine business with pleasure, by paying us a visit on that day, Tho Warden has a large amount of monoy, about 1/12000, I believe, ready to be paid to the native owners of this place, as soon as they have agreed amongst themselves as to its appoiutment. The division is expected to take place to-morrow, when wo shall doubtless have some lively tiraefe.
