PIAKO.
Tke monthly meeting of the Waitoa Highway Board was held last Saturday, at which, in addition to a large amount of routine business, several deputations were heard. Accounts amounting to about £400 were passed and paid. Boltou and Lyons have finished their contract on the road leading to Matamata, but it was decided to still further improve about eight chains of a bad swampy piece. I ovett and Cassidy's various contracts are in an advanced state. Voy&ey and Frizzell's contract on the road leading to the property of Chuclleigh Sec, to and from the Thames.-Wai-kato road is nearly finished, but it was > decided to put an extra culvert on that road. Lovett is about to commence several other necessary works to improve what is called the Tahuroa road. Preliminary arrunjrements were decided on regarding a road for the benefit of deferred payment settlers in the Te Aroha Block, towards which these settlers have promised subscriptions. Preliminary arrangements were also made regarding a road for tho benefit of Strauce and others. From the reports of meetings for electing School Committees, I observe that several districts have had the capitation allowance for the quarter ending 30th September, stopped by the Board of Education. It may. therefore, bo somo consolation for the members of the Waitoa School Committee to reflect that the contemptible treatment they hnve received from the Board of Education or their officers in only a sample of the everyday doina"* of these dignitaries. — (Own Correspondent.)
