VISIT OF HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR WAIKATO.

The people of Waikato, always famed for the^r loyalty, are abputrto outdo themselves on the occasion' of the visit of iHig Excellency Sir Arthur Gordon. The deception, considering the hardness of times, will be on a somewhat grand scnle. His Excellency • will arrive at the Hamilton junction 'railway-station about noon, accompanied by the Hon. tho AttorneyGeneral and the members of hii> aufte. At the platform th« Governor will be met by the member for Waipa, Mr F. A. Whitalcer (Mr J. B. Whyte, who otherwise would bo present, has been called away unavoidably), and tho chairmen of the > County Councils of Waik-ito and Waipa. The vico-regal party will then be driven to the town in a icur-ili-hand, an escort being formed by the Hamilton Troop of "Waikato Cavalry, under the command of Lieutenant Johnson. They will be met at the Borough Council Chambers by the Hamilton Light Infantry Band, which thence will precede them. A large triumphal arch is now, in course of erection to span Victoria-street, and at this the Mayor and Councillors of Hamilton, will meet His Excellency, and present him with the following address of welcome, the original of which has been beautifully illuminated by Mr T. ti. Smythe:— "To His Excellency the Honorable Arthur Hamilton Gordon, Governoi and Commander-tn-Chici in and over Her Majesty's Colony ot New Zealand and its dependencies, and ViceAdmiicil ot the same. — M<iy it please jour Excellent), — We, the inhabitants of the Borough of Hamilton, and residents of the surrounding districts, rcspccthillj beg to tender jou a coidwl welcome to Waikato. The representative of Her Majesty has always commanded in this district the respect and deference which true loyalty demands, but we wish turther to assure yourself personally of our confidence that you will faithiully carry out the hi,jh trust reposed in jou as the Governor ot this colony. In establishing peaceful relations between the two laces inhabiting those islands, we feel that joui good offices will be especially valuable. We trust that the term of youi Go\ eminent may sec prosperity, now dawning upon the country*, fully established, and the peace of the colony firmly and finally secuied. "Wewishjou happiness and prosperity during joui sojourn amongst us." The Governor will 1 cad his reply, and t then an adjournment will bo made for lunch, atter which tho pnity will proceed to Cambridge, where His Excellency will be met by tho town authorities, and receive an address of welcome.
