The Calcutta Englhhmnn reports that on October 10, at about 5.30, u mah in the employ of a Mrs. Rodriguez, rending at No. 68, Circular Garden Reach Road — a small hoase, which belonged to her, in the midst of a large garden — gave information at the Mocheekola Thannab, which is sorao two houses off, that his mistress's house had been broken into, the property ransacked, and Mrs. Rodrigues missing. The inspector of the Tannah immediately proceeded to the house in question, and tound th.it a huge hole had been made in the pucca wall under the staircase, and that the thief or thieves had effected their entrance I through it. The only room which bore signs of having been dis.manged was Mrs. Rodrigues' bedroom, which was va the greatest state of disorder. The drawers of the dressing-table and a laisje wooden chest had been opened and pilfered, the bedding had been dragged off the bed on to the ground, and articles of every description, such as dresse«, shawls, &c, •were littered about on the floor. In tlie bathroom. Mrs. Rodrigues waa found lying on her back dead. The poor woman had not a vestisre of clothing on, and it seems probable that she was stabbed in the left side when close to the door leading to the bathroom, Jand near which the wooden chest is, and then returned into it in the endeavom to escape, but fell over the threshold, when the murdeier or murderer.-? inflicted a terrible gash on the right aide of the throat, which killed her. Her fingers and the palms of her hands also were cut about, indicating that n struggle had endued. A large iion pafe, containing upwards of 94G rupees in notes and silver, £4 10s in English gold coins, gold ornaments, a number of title deeds, and her husband's wills, was found in a tank in the compound. The deceased was about 45 years of age, and it is supposed that some villian or villians, as yet unknown, who weie cognisant of her wealth, had, as their pumary object, robbery only in view, but that the noise they were making having awakened iEis. Rodrigues, they considcicrl it achisable to destroy her. The unfortunate woman was in the habit of retiring eaily, keeping no lights burning and not oven allowing her ayah to &top in the house with her. Her two main, who are suspected of being the perpetrators of this ciuel murder, are under anest, and the police are strenuously endeavouring to find a clue.
