The dispute between the Education and City Committee c<irae before the Education Ho.nd to-day, when the Board adopted a letter explaining their reasons* for taking over City East School. Wellington, Last Night. Messrs Hall and Biyee returned fioni the .South to-il.iy. A meeting ot the Executive Council took placo at the Government House at noon to-cl.ty, Hie Governor pie-iding Messrs Hall, Dick, Atkinson, Biyce, <uul Rolleston, wcic present. The busme% was of the usual formal routine character. Papers relating to the Chatham Islands murderer, Wluroapa, have been received, and are under the confaideiation of the Government. It is gcneially believed th.vt tho AcatU sentence will wot be caviled out. Hi& Excellency the Governor and the Hon. Mr Rollcston btarfc at ten to-night in the liincnioa for the Manukau. The following appointments and promotions in tlie Volunteer force are gazetted: — Waikato Cavalry Volunteers A. or Te Avramutu troop ; Lieutenant William Samuel Rutherford to be captain; Robert Bruoc, lieutenant ; George AVilkinson, sub-lieutcuant. Waikato Cavalry A'oluntcers C, or Hamilton troop : Lieut. Frederick Alexander Whi taker to be captain ; Snb-Lieutennnt Charles Revel Johubton to be lieutenant; William Francis Hunt to be sub-lieutenant. The following have been appointed the Pharmacy Board of Naw Zealand : — Charles Decimua Batraud, John Valentine Ross, Thomas Wilkinson, Graves Aickin, William Fife, Henry Brittain, and John Alexander Allan. Mr Barraud has been appointed Chairman of the said Board. The bye-laws on the New Zealand Railways, in substitution of the previous byelaws, are gazetted. Census Enumerators and Superintendent Collectors have been appointed, Mr Francis Peel Murray has been appointed the Acting Private Secretary to Jdifj Excellency. The Mayors of a number of boroughs have beea appointed Justices of the Peace.
