Auckland, Last Night, MrG. M. Reed goes to Tauranga to-night to meet some of his special settlers on board the Lady Jocelyn at Tauranga. A j telegram to-day stated that the vessel was sighted on Sunday, but she was not able to get in owing to the want of wind. She is still tacking between Major Island and the Mount. The pilot is on board, and expects to bring her in about 4 o'clock. There will be no communication with the passengers until she is passed by the Health Officer. The committee have gone down to read an address to the passengers. Thomas Nixon, gum-digger, of KauIcapakapa, has committed suicide.
Wellington, Last Night. The Governor starts on a tour of the North Island on Friday. He visits Auckland first, then Waikato, Napier, Palmerston, Wanganui, and New Plymouth, stopping at all intermediate places.
Blenheim, Last Night. The New Year was ushered in by a terrible fatality. About 12.30 on Saturday morning a house occupied by a bricklayer named Dairker caught fire, and was soon burnt to the ground. When the fire was discovered Dairker escaped in a blanket, but the cbarred remains of Mrs Dairker were afterwards discovered under the kitchen floor.
