Auckland, Last Night. Swiltzer, a Mongonui settler, has been arrested on a charge of deserting his wife and family at Mongonui, and eloping with a young girl. On his arrest being made known to the girl, she declared her determination to follow her lover anywhere, and, throwing her arms round his neck, made an affecting scene. Swilfczer has been remanded to Mongonui. The police are taking care of the girl.

Wellington, Last Night. Mr Lewis, solicitor, of Wellington, has been appointed Law Officer.
