Waitoa C.C. v. Hamilton C.C.

This match was played on the new ground of the Hamilton Club, Sydney Square, which was found to be in excellent condition- The Hamilton team was captained by Wood, and S. B. Smith performed a like duty for the visitors. The Waitoa team went in first to the bowling of Wood and Langdaile. Smith was run ont m the first over, and Stafford worked hard for his 6. Carlton put 9 together by free play, when he was declared out 1. b. w. Grey also made Borne good hits, and put 10 together ; the inuinprs closed for 4(5. Wood then sent Meacham and Gleeson to the wicketb. The former made a hit for 3 and another for 2 and was then run out. The latter put together the good score of 27 by free, all-round play, when he was caught by Gray. Tonks made 9, and none of the others call for comment. The last wicket fell for 04. W.vitoa then went in and made 30, there being nothing remarkable in the play. Hamilton had thus only 13 to make to win, and Cox and Tonks were bent to the wickets. The former was bowled by Stafford after making 1, and Ormerod, who followed, was run out without scoring. Tonks played carefully, and on being joined by Langdale the requisite number of runs were soon made, Hamilton thus winning by eight wickets. The following are the bcores :—: —
