KIRIKIRIROA HIGHWAY BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held at the Royal Hotel, Hamilton, yesterday. Present — Messrs Primrose (chairman), Gillett, McLernon, tad Coates. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Manager of the Waikato Land Association wrote intimating that the Directors declined the offer of the Board to take £2 per acre for the land on closed roads. He also diew attention to the necesaity for doing something to the road on the Hokonui side of Mr Komney's farm. The Chairman said the Board had closed the roads at the request of the Company. The price asked was not too high. He was of opinion that the Board should take the roads back again. The Clerk said the amount of land on the roads closed was 150 acres, and the course of procedure was to offer the land first to the owners of the adjoining land, S and if not taken to sell it by auction. After discussing the matter the Board came to the conclusion that as the lowest valuation in the district was £2 per acre, they could not reduce the price. It was accordingly resolved to put up the lands to auction at an upset price of £2 por acre, and failing the disposal of the land in this way. to apply to the Government to cancel the stoppage of the roads, and to allow the lands to revert to its original use. It was nlso agreed to reply to Mr Reynolds, stating- that the Board had recently made an inspection of the roads at Hokonui, and had it in contemplation to effect certain repairs. Mr S. Teas wrote as follows : — Sirs, — I want to know when Livingston and Booth's contract is to be finished, and the furze at Pigg's farm want-* grubbing cut and burnt as they are growing again. The road wanbs clearing in froat of my farm. I and others want the work done at once. I want to hear from you when these little jobs will be done. Mr Coates said that now there was considerable traffic on the road to Piako the Board would require to sppnd inoie money than hitherto. Mr Swavbrick read a report of the visit of inspection made by the Chairman, Mr Gillet, and himself over the roads between Hamilton and Taupiri, reconimendinT certain works on the Hokonui and River s ide roads. After discussing the matter, it was resolved that tho Secretary should advertise for tenders for certain of the works recommended. It was agreed that the Chairman should have power to expend £b on the approaches to the bridge near Patersons farm, and to send the two surface-men to execute cettain works at Maungahaka. Accounts amounting to £28 Ha od. were pa&hcd for payment, and the Board shortly afterward* adjourned.
