WITH a view to injure my trade as a painter, some malicious persona have circulated a report at Kihikihi to the effect that I am a correspondent for the New Zealand Free Press, and that I furnish information to that journal affecting the religion of Roman Catholics ; I am also accused of being an Orangeman. With respect to the first charge, I positively deny having ever corresponded, directly or indirectly, with the Free Press, or with any person connected therewith, although I ieel at perfect liberty to do so were I so inclined. The second charge, that lam an Orangeman, is strictly true. I am a staunch member of the Orange Order, and in the number of degrees I have taken am second to none in New Zealand. An Orangeman I will be animo et fide, ad infinitum. No surrender ! C. G. THOMAS. Kihikihi, Nov. 23, 1880.
