CRICKET. Cambridge v. Alexandra.
This match was played on the Cambridge ground on Saturday last, and resulted in a victory for the home team by 59 runs. Alexandra won the tos««, and sent Cambridge to the wickets, who were disposed of for 48 runs, Mackintosh and C. Pearson reaching double figures only. For the Alexandra, Grierson was the only man to make a stand against the bowling of Cotton and Martin, their lnst wicket fulling for 46, or two behind their opponents. In the second innings of the Cambridge the field had a much more lively time of it, Cooper especially hitting 7ery freely, and to all parts of the field. M. Stubbing carried out his bat with a well-earned 13, and Hinton was most unfortunate in getting chronicled with a lbw. The innings closed for 129, leaving their opponents 132 to win, and well did T. Bond and P. C. Connell endeavour to wipe them off, but alas, their vigorous efforts had no secouder, and their innings closed for 72. Messrs Moore and Regan were the umpires. The next match of the Cambridge Club will be against Hamilton, to be played at Cambridge on or about the 21th instant. Attached are the scores :—: —
