WHATAWHATA.
A mebtixu was lislil at Kellow's hotel on Monday evening, to consider Highway matters, Mr Foxnll in t!ie chair, about a dozen settlers being present. Mr Day stated what steps he had taken in reference to the appeal, but said he "was anxious to settle the matter without further law if possible, and this seemed to be tiie feeling of those present. A. meeting of the opposing parties was arranged to be held on .Saturday (to-day) at Mr Dawson's, pending which the meeting adjourned. A cricket match took place yesterday between the Ngaruawahia and Whata-whata-Ngahinepouri united teams. The following is the result of the match :— Whatawhata, Ist innings, 19 ; second innings, 83— total, 102. Ngaruawahia, Ist innings, 110. We were beaten by one innings and 8 runs. The teams were short-handed on both sides, several of our best men not showing up ; however, a very pleasant game was played. In the evening a dance came off in the Hall, at which a good number were present, and dancing was kept up until an early hour this morning.— [Own Correspondent, Oct.
