WAI PA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tiik ordinary meeting of the Council was held at the County Chambers, Ohaupo, on Tuesday, when there were present — Mill. Bottle (chairman), Crs. W.iinwright, Cunningham, Reynolds, and Steele. The minutes of the previous mooting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence Wib read and approved. The Clerk stated that a reply hart been received from Mr Southey, agreeing to repair the Te Rore punt on the lerm-> laid before the Council by Mr McMinn. The O'lerk also reported that lie had written to the Colonial Treasurer to know whether any steps could be taken to stop from subsidies to the Raglan County Council the amount owing to W.iipa in respect of certain disbursements made on the ferries on the Waipa River. He had not as yet received any reply. A voucher for £102 10s lid, being 20 per cent, of amount accruing from lnnd sales during the past four months, "was received from the Treasury. Mr George Harper, Alexandra, wrote regarding the road-closing through Bosanko's %ra in the Mangapiko district. The Chairman pointed out that the Council had not received intimation from the Board that any further step* would be taken in the matter, and ho therefore did not see that they could do anything. No action was t ikon. . A letter was read from the Crown Lands Office, stating that the only re-erve available for the County was one in the Pukete district, containing 20 acres. Mr A. Y. Macdonald, Manager of the Auckland Railways, wrote, asking 1 for suggesions regardiug- the alteration of the time-table. After discussing- the matter, Cr. Cunningham moved "That in the opinion of this Council a train leaving Te Awamutu at 8 a.m. and one leaving Auckland at the same hour "would be a great improvement on the present time-table, anl that a cattle train should leave Te Awamutu at 10 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays." This was seconded by Cr. Wainwright. Cr. Steele moved an amendment to the effect that the north train should leave at 10 a.m., or in the event of the Department running a special cattle train two days, the train arrangements for the remainder of the week be left in the hands of the railway authorities. The amendment lapsed, and the motion was then put and carried. The Undersecretary for Public Works wrote, drawing the attention of the Council to certain sections in the Public "Works Act Amendment Act, relating to road closing, which greatly simplified the mode of procedure. A letter was read from Cr. Grermann, tendering his resignation as a member of the Council, and requesting the Council to take the necessary steps to elect his successor as early as possible. Cr. Steele moved "That the resignation be accepted, with an expression of the regret which the Council feel at the loss of so valuable a member as Mr Germann." Cr. Wainwright in seconding the motion also referred to the loss they would experience by the resignation of so useful a member. The motion was carried. It was resolved to take immediate steps to elect a successor to Mr Getmaun, and
Mr $V'T. Maunder was appointed Returning Officer for the Mangapiko Ridiug. „£ The^fmairman reported that in conjunction with Cr. Aubin, he had examined the books of the Council in order to determine what amount of remuneration the clerk was entitled to for putting them in order, and they had arrived at the the conclusion that £7 103 would be a fair sum. On the motion of Cr. Reynolds the report was adopted. The Chairman intimated that the next meeting qff the Council, which would be their annual meeting",' would be held on the 4th Wednesday in November, when they would exercise the privilege of ellecting their chairman for the ensuing year, The Council then rose.
