HAMILTON HIGHWAY BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Board was held on Saturday, in the Waikato Times Buildings. Present: Messers. 8. Steele, (chairman) Ridler, Gribble and Edgecumbe. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, a letter was read from the Under-Secretary for Public Works re advance of £60 on the account of Hamilton- Whatawhata road contract. Mr A. Y. Macdonald wrote on the subject of the time-table and it was resolved to reply to the effect that a train leaving Auckland at 8 a.m. would answer best for the mails, and a train leaving Te Awamutu at 10 a.m. would best suit the requirements of the cattle traffic. In anawer to a letter from Mr Jolly it was resolved to intimate " that the Board is prepared to purchase the four acres of land at £4 per acre, the price as shown by his letter at the time the land was taken for a road, on the understanding that Mr Jolly dedicate this road together with all roads as shown upon the plan ot Frankton, being in this Highway District so as to avoid any question of this sort arising in future. Failing acceptance of this offer the Board will refer the matter to the Government at the grant to the Tuhikaramea Highway Board was in part expended on this road and it is presumed some distinci assurance must have been given by Mr Jolly previous to 'heir entering upon this land. " It was resolved that Mr Edg-ecumbe employ a solicitor to take the necessary steps under the Public Works Act to obtain the land required for a road through Mr Aitken's land to Colonel DeQuincey's. It was resolved to accede to the request of Messrs Coleman for permission to remove wood from their contract. The following accounts were^ passed : — Messrs B. and J. Coleman (No. 3 contract), £90 ; Mr G. Boyd (pipes), £3 12s. Some othor business of an unimportant nature having been transacted, the Board adjourned.
