St. MUNGO ON THE WELLINGTON OBSERVATORY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sni,— Your contributor, ** St Mungo," is slightly in error when he states that the observatory at Wellington is situated in a sheltered valley, as it is on quite an as exposed positibn as the observatory in the Auckland domain, in fact it is in a very similar position 1 , being on a rjre at the back of the town, with a valley on either side of it. Of course the Welling' ton one might have been placed on the ranges surrounding' the town, but so might the Auckland one have been placed on Mounts Eden or Rangitoto.— l am, &c, Moleswobth St.
