Wellington, Last Night.
The jury after taking voluminous evidence and after an hour's deliberation returned the following :— l ' The verdict of the jury is that, after, full consideration of the evidence brought before them, the deaths, of Ida Pharazyn and Francis Nicholas were purely accidental, and caused by the carriage being blown off the line down an embankment on the incline ; and. in the opinion of the jury, no blame is attached to anyone," Rider :-r'* JL That in the opinion of the jury, the Government should take immediate action, by the construction of wind-sheds or other i protective, means, to prevent* so far as possible, the recurrence of similar accidents, on dangerous parts of the incline ; andthptdirept telegraph communication be at once established between the i Summit and Kaitoke. ?. That the gravest censure be passed on tho witness Quinn for the statement he made, without any corroborative evidence, that the driver and stoker were in posseswon of a bottle of brandy before the accident j . that they were new hands j and that the carriage was not properly coupled, — especially as the evidence shows that the driver and stoker were perfectly sober, and, instead of being new hands, had been engaged working engines on the incline for the last eighteen months ; and that on the occurrence of the accident, the railway authorities and their em- ! ployees rendered every possible assistance in their power. And the jury are of opinion, from the evidence adduced, that the management of the line is most i efficient,"
