SURVEY OF THE TOWN OF CAMBRIDGE.
Mucn has been said and much has j been written on the matter of the surveys of the Cambridge township. Applications have been repeatedly made to the Survey Office, and as the <sub joined „ correspondence will .show to, the ..great neglect of .Cambridge, all to no purpose. The I owners of property .aiid; those aboutto build are ever in doubts and f ears* 'as to the proper lines and points, and the possibility of endless litigation in the future. The excuse of the Survey Office that they cannot furnish "a few points here and there t su^h as corners of bfte br more, of the principal streets bWcause of their limited staff," .seems empty, i poor, and a petty excuse to an application of sd much import to Cambridge property holders. If the survey staff is so limited the Government might employ a surveyor,, and. the present would be an especially 'appropriate time, Mr Gwynneth lieing now occupied in surveying the Town Belt, which would greatly facilitate the re-sur-veying of the township. The following is the correspondence on the subject : — " Town Board Office, Cambridge, Bth September. 1880. Percy Smith, Esq., Survey Office, Auckland. Sir,— On behalf of the Cambridge North Township Highway District Board I beg to bring before your attention the fact that Mr John Gwynneth is now* engaged m surveying the Town Belt adjoining the township. As you are aware your department has repeatedly promised that a survey of this township would be made at an early date. Such a re-survey is urgently required, as on account of the fast increasing value of property and the very imperfect nature of the existing surveys, much inconvenience is now being experienced, "whioh will probably result in a great amount of future litigation. On behalf of the Board ,1 beg to suggest that you give instructions to Mr Gwynneth to re-survey this township, as the information he lias obtained in surveying the Town Belt would be of great assistance to him in doing so. I sincerely hope that, having in view not only the importance of the matter but the desirability of immediate action, you may see your way to comply with this request. — I am, yours faithfully, (Signed) J. P. Campbell, Chairman Town Board.
