RAGLAN.
Theek is a great outcry Here re ihe alteration of the mails. Firat our mails used to arrive on Monday and Thursday evenings ; then they were altered to Tuesday and Friday morniDgs to arrive at 10. 15. a. m. and leave at 12 noon; now on the same day but at 11. 15. a. m. and leave at 12 noon, which scarcely gives us time to read our letters leaving out the question of replying by the same mail. By and by perhaps the authorities will treat us with, a mail once in'three months or perhaps once in six months. Where does the blame lie? Our new Public vacoiuator Mr W. Powell will commence operations next month w,hen parents are already notified to bring their children to be vaccinated on the first and second Wednesday in each month. The • ' Hannah Mokau" for Waitara got in here on Wednesday la9t on account of strong winds to take advantage of our beautiful and well sheltered and safe harbour, it is a great pity that captains of vessels do not avail themselves more of our harbour, for there is no doubt that it is in the direct line from here to Sydney or Melbourne, and if thrown open as a port of entry would be a great boon to the whole of the Waikato district. A very good railway line could be opened from Hamilton to here at a very small cost, and would pay itself in a very short time, it only requires British pluck and energy to bring the matter before the Government, and our members should be spoken to on the matter. Waikato should and will advance and Raglan -which is the key to that advancement should be more thought of, and opened up by both telegraph and railway. A large mob of cattle left on Saturday for Ohaupo consigned to the well-known Mr Hunter, auctioneer. The cattle are from Mr Studholine's run at Te Akau.
