THE ROAD TO THE THAMES
At the commencement of this year, in a short address which the hon. member for Walkato delivered to his Cambridge constituents, he said he had set his heart on accomplishing' four things, namely, the Rotorua road, the Cambridge railway, the road to the Thames, and the road to Tauranga. The first of these will be un fait accompli before many months, and although Mr. Whyte has not this year been entirely successful in regard to the second, we cannot doubt that before the expiration of his term, the branch railway to Cambridge will be authorised and probably in progress. Of the other works, we have noticed from time to time the progress which is being made with the road over the ranges to connect this district with the East Coast, and it is now our good fortune to announce that the traffic road from Omahu to Ohinemuri will be pushed on with all speed. Mr. Whyte was of much assistance in getting a vote of £2000 passed for this work, a sum which is considered ample to form the road. So far at least, half the distance the country is level, and the work over the range itself has been partly done. It is rumoured that the road through the Komata Block, North of Paeroa, will also be made. If this be true, we may look forward to being able at no distant date to drive from Waikato to the Thames.
