NGARUAWAHLA. Progress of Settlement.
Ox Thursday we had the pleasure of visiting the property of R. ltitliborne, Es<{., situated on the West bank of the Waipa, and about one mile from the town of jNTgaruawahia. This property consists of 350 aei os of excellent land, all in grass. It is prettily planted w ith ornamental trees and shrubs. There are numbers of fruit trees m full bearing, audit po&se&ses moreover a lovety piece of New Zealand bush, lending a park-like aspect to the outlook from the house. Mr Rathbome, a recent armal from the old country, and belonging to that class of settler of whom Kew Zealand cannot obtain enough, has erected an exceedingly pretty and substantial dwelling-house, over which we were permitted by the courtesy of the proprietor, to go. The house contains ten 100 ms, all of Avhieh are above the ordinary dimensions. The drawing-room, 18ft. \ 1-ift., is a partieulaily handsome apartment, with a large bay window, commanding a magnificent view of the Waipa Iviver and the town of Xgaruawahia. The dining-room is also a large apartment, opening into the verandah with Finn h oa^cneuts There are two large bedrooms and four of smaller dimensions, and a largo and loffcv kitchen, the Utter bcintr mutchlined aud varnished throughout. The ceilings throusyhont the buildincr fiio all nicely moulded and varnished ; the doors of all the apartments ai-e fitted with 7 mortice loe'es, and black ebony furniture. Tho exterior of the buiWiny is rustic, ited weather boaulimr, tho timber being of th" 1 very best quality of heirfc of Kauri. The verandah is sevun feet wide, roofed with corni" iterl iion, painted. The housi> i-> bui't on biick pier*, and roofel with best heart of X mri shinirles. The an hitect was Mr T. H.
