ROAD CLOSING IN THE MANGAPIKO DISTRICT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Will you publish the following letter in the Waikato Times, and you will oblige many settlers in this part of the Waikato. Some ratepayers 'in the adjoining Highway District asked me to make public my experience as an oppc» sitionest to the road closing in the Mangapiko Highway District, .'it is simply this : They that have large farms want the roads closed that run through them : they seem to have an understanding, you bQlv me and I will help you, and at the spdbial meeting to consider the closirg of the roads the Vote is taken by i\ c s^iow of hands', and the small settlers are boand to vote for the big settler, who givo3 him work, «nd then it is left to thf middle
class to oppose the small and the large farmers. .The middle class have no mercenary interest in the .roads, and it' is hard to get them to attend a public meeting, tho opnHequenee^Hfo momedman has ijf all his own TO^s&*\carry everything with *a .high hud, regardless of t|te legality of , their actibna. Councillor Geroia|A)flmhlicly started in the Watpa Goum^lfpMl oa.the 10th, that he was there*- asrS^preflentative^ $£••• those who wanted t^-jtoada olosed, atfd still voted in his capaoity as member or 1 the County Couucil. Can a man be advocate and judge in the same case i—l am, Sec,, ' Geojigb Harper.
