Calcutta, August 10. Intelligence has been received from Kandahar to the 6th inst. General Burrows reports that the citadel is in a complete state of defence, and that he is provisioned for 25 days. Ayoub Khan with the bulk of his army is encamped at Kokoan, near Kandahar.
London, August 10. In the House of Commons, the Marquis of Hartington, Secretary of State for India, in replying to certain remarks which had been made regarding Cabul defence, and the evacuation and withdrawal of British troops,' said it was of no political importance that the troops should remain there, and General Stewart had fully concurred in the proposal to remove them.
