CAMBRIDGE DOMAIN BOARD.
♦ Thk u&ual monthly meeting of the Cambridge Domain Board was held on Saturday last. Present : Messrs T. Wolls (Chairman), John Fisher, and R. Kirkwood. The Chairman read the correspondence since last meeting between himself and the Under-Secretary for Crown Lands, informing the Board officially that "the mistake in gazetting Town Belt boundaries was rectified in that th Town' Belt in Cambridge West and Lake reserve would be brought under the Public Domains Act, 1860, and that the Governor's powers would be delegated to the present Board. The Governor would, subject to certain restrictions, sign leases submitted by this Board. The following letter was the Chairman's reply : — " Cambridge, 3rd August, 1880. — Sir : I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your favor of the 23rd ult., No. 549. It is a most satisfactory reply to mine of the 7th, and will fully meet the wishes of our Board. Your instructions re keeping some portion of the Domain open to the public has occupied the attention of the Board. Ample reserves will be made for this purpose when the survey (now about to be made) is completed. Iwould'point out that, in describing our Town Belt, the Gazette of the 22nd ult., page 1049, nearly repeats the mistakes of the first description in the Gazette of the 4rd, page 843. In th« first issue the country sees where gazetted — the second issue gazettes them as bounding the Town Belt on one side (and rightly so), but fails to say what bounds it on the other. It should read thus : — All the land lying between the granted boundaries of rural sections 161, 1, 18,
184, 105, 196, 209, 210, 215, 216, 230, and 235 and the roads and town sections of the toicn of Cambridge. If the words in italics were added, the land lying between them will be the Town Belt — I have, &c. A letter was read fpin the Secretary of the Cambridge Cricket Club, asking for a portion of t .he Domain for cricket, football, and other athletic spoits, the consideration of which will stmd over till the survey is completed. In accordance with a resolution passed at last meeting of the Board, tenders had been invited for t u e survey, &c, of the Town Belt, and five had been reqe ved as subjoined:— John Gwnneth, C.E., Authorised Surveyor, L 139 ; G. F. Hosking, Authorised Surveyor, L 162 15s; Jas. Simms, Authorised Surveyor, L 22 5; T. G. Sandes, Licensed Surveyor, L 250; A. B. Stubbins, Licensed Surveyor, Ll6O. It was then propo ed that Mr Gwynncth's tender, being the lowest, be accepted. — Carried. It was resolved that a sub-committee 1)3 formed to superintend the survey — to consist of the Chairman and Mr R. Kirkwood for Cambridge East, and the Chairman and either Mr K5. B. Walker or Mr John Fisher for Cambridge West.
