WHATAWJIATA.
On Friday evening last a dance came off in our hall ; it was to have taken place on the Wednesday previous, but, through the wet weather, it was postponed. The party was a most pucces^ful one, over 20 couple being present. There were very few visitors from Ngaruawahia, owing probably to the bad state of the roads. Saturday was nomination day for our Newcastle Trustees. A good number of electors rolled up, nnd 1 1 were duly nominated. As the Board consists of only five members, it will be seen that we have no lack of choice this time. The following were nominated : — Messrs Dawson, Day, Braithwaite, Salmon, Johns, Carpenter, Morrison, Laing, Lamb, Stone, and M.ijor Wilson. Mr Corboy reached the township a little too late for thenominatiou, and will, therefore, to the i egret of many, not be on the Board this year. The election taVes place next Saturday ; and, whoever the Trustee may be, they will at leavt be the representatives of resident ratepayers, and not, as in many ■•ases hitherto, of absentee voters. — [Own Correspondent.]
