THE HAMILTON BRIDGE. Meeting of Burgesses.
At a meeting of bm-gesses, held at the Oddfellows' Hall, Hamilton East, last night, the attached resolutions were earned unanimously. About 50 ratepayers were present, and the chair was occupied by Captain Steele.
Moved by Mr Potter, and seconded by Mr Gumming — i'hat this meeting- ueus with surprise and •il.nm the resolution passed by the Borough Council on Fnday e\enmj, r last, stating that it \\<ii> desirable to build .1 i>tone retaining- \\ .ill tor biidsje appioach, and this meeting is of opinion that such resolution, it rariied out, would be impolitic and alltngether contiarj to the anangement cnteied into with the Government, in borrowing the money.
Moved by Mr John Knox, and seconded by Mr George lleid — Ih.it in the opinion of this meeting- the intcrestb of the binjjc^ses as <i whole, would be hotter served by abolishing the present tolls., and making 1 tho bnuge dee.
Moved by Mr J. K. McDonald, and seconded by Mr P. Coleman, senr. — lh.it the burgesses have no confidence in the Kortnigh Council «is ,it present constituted, owintf to theenieitfcnrj- mooting- on Fitd.iy night I.ibt if the bridge .ippi caches.
It was resolved that the Chairman of the meeting forward copies of the above to tie Borough Council.
