THE DOG NUISANCE.

Sir, — Now that the Trustees of the different Town and District Boards are elected and commencing their work of levying rates and taxes for local purposes I beg to suggest, that they should, if they have the power, tax dogs in the following manner— all greyhounds £2 per year, all other sporting dogs £1, sheep and cattle dogs ss. as before. It would greatly help the rates, and lessen the mischief now done by the above named class of dot's. It is a shame to see so many of these greyhounds running about at large, coursing on their own account, running about in paddocks where valuable sheep are grazing, and now the lambiug season is coming on, there will be no end of mischief and damage done. There are certain parties who keep three or four of these greyhounds, and seldom or never go out for a ride without them at their heels, and who boast of going out on Sunday mornings and catching 2 or 3 hares. Neither instinct or preservation can make them think they are anything but perfectly harmless. I hope, Sir, you will assist the Boards and do your best to get the tax put on and abate the niusance. — I tin, &c Taxpayer.
