TE AWAMUTU. Presentation to the Organist of Saint John's.

On Monday evening a number of the choir and congregation of St. John's church, assembled at the Par&onage for the purpose of presenting Miss Mandeno with a testimonial in recognition of her services rendered to the Church during the last five years and upwards. The Rev. E J. Phillips in handing the testimonial (a handsome gold Walthara watch) observed that everyone connected with the church would agree with him that the testimonial was well merited. Their Organist had been most constant in hey attendance at the church twice every Sunday, and also once a week for choir practice. The Fund, which had been originated during the charge of the Rev. L.C. Brady, had now attained considerable dimensions, and with it the- watch had been purchased. He hoped that the congregation would not fail to suitably acknowledge Miss Mandeno' s future services. Mr James L. Mandeno on behalf of his sister, thanked the subscribers. - Mr Winstone, (the Agent for the Bank of New Zealand) proposed that no report of the proceedings should appear *in the public newspapers but this attempt to stifle the Press failed to find favour with those present as they felt that Miss Mandeno s gratuitous services deserved every recognition. The Rev. Mr Phillips to whom Mr "Winstone's remark Avas addressed, observed that at the request of the Bishop, he should send an account for insertion in the Church G-azette. — Own Correspondent.
