FATAL ACCIDENT AT OH A UPO.

Yesterday John Stokes, third son of Robert Stokes, of Hamilton West, met with a fatal accident at Ohaupo. It appears that the two elder brothers of deceased (Robert and George), together with a mate named Bradley, have been for some weeks engaged on contract bush work on Mr Buckland's estate. The deceased happened to be just close to a tree which his brothers were felling, and when warned to be on his guard he ran in the wrong direction and was caught by the falling tree and jammed against another. His brothers having rescued him from his sad position found him quite hors de combat, and removed him to a house close at hand. This happened about noon. Intelligence having been conveyed to his mother, Father Golden and Dr Samles proceeded by train to Ohaupo. They reached there in time to find him quite conscious ; but it was apparent that death was not far distant. Accordingly Father Golden At once proceeded to administer the last rites of the Holy Church, and soon after the patient succumbed. Dr Santles found the regions around the hips, internally and externally, hopelessly injured. The youth, whose age was about 14 and whose amiable qualities endeared hjm *° ft U w l*9
