SOMETHING REMARKABLE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I think the following circumstances worthy of note in connection with the fire at Hamilton on Wednesday night. About 11.30 p.m., or a litttlelate^ the glare in the sky was noticed by several persons from the river side near the Ngaruawahia wharf, and upon their proceeding towards the outskirts of the township, it was thought by most that the fire was about mid- way between Ngaruawahia and Hamilton, so close did it appear. At times too it could be seen that water was being thrown on the burning mass, clouds of sparks flying upwards each time this happened. Forms too could be seen passing to and fro, apparently between the lookers anoTthe flames. It is rather surprising that the reflection should been so strong on such a night, but the above facts are all correct and can be vouched for by many. The distance would be about 12 miles in a straight Hues. — I am, &c, Observer. Ngaruawahia, 9th July. 1880.
