FACTS WORTH KNOWING.
To Protect Trees and Shrubs from the Attacks of Hares. Ta.ee three pints of melted tallow to one ot tar and mix them well together, over a gentle fire. At the end of autumn take a small brush and go over the rhind or the bark of the trees with the mixture, in a milk-warm state, as then it can be laid on with the brush. This coating will not hinder the juices or sap expanding in the smallest degree. Its efficacy has heen proved by applying the liquid to one tree and missing another, when the latter has been attacked and the former left. Daring five years' experience, of the besmeared, the first two years, not one was injured afterwards. If all the bark was properly gone over with the mixture they probably would not need any more for some years.
To Remove the Taste of Turnips from Milk or Butter. The taste of the turnip is easily taken off milk and butter by dissolving a little nitre in spring water, which should be kept in a bottle ; and a small teacupful put into eight gallons of milk, when warm from the cow, entirely removes any taste or flavor of the turnip.
To Quench Thirst where Drink is Improper. Pour vinegar into the palms of the hands, snuff it up the, nostrils, and wash the mouth with the same.
Remedy for Weak Sight. Beat up a drachm of alum in the white of au egg 1 , and smear the eyebrow and eyelid with the mixture every night.
