The outlaw was quite composed, and, in answer to enquiries, he made the following: statement : — " What I intended to do, and in fact wa3 just about doing, was to go back with some of my mates and meet the spcial train. The train came, however, before I expected it. I had to return to the hotel I thousrht the tiain
would go on, and on that account I had the rails pulled up so that these d — d black trackers might be settled. It does not much matter what blood was s-hed at Glenrowan. I don't know, or don't say. It does not seem much any was. If I liked, I could havo got away last night. I got into the bush last night with my grey mare, and laid there all ni°-ht. At the commencement of the affair this morning, I fired some shots from the f i ont of Mr Tone!>' Hotel, but I did not know who I was firing at. I only fired when I saw flashes. I then cleared for the bush, but remained there near the hotel all night.
