LARRIKINISM.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Some antiquarian larrikin has | discovered by an extraordinary flight of his inventive genius that it is a good joke to rouse the bridge-keeper at night, under the pretence that he requires the gate opened ; on the appearance of the person in charge he discovers that the individual in question is non est. Now, sir, I for one cannot see whei'e the laugh comes in ; if this individual would condescend to give the brainless contents of his cranium a short respite it might occur to him that his joke might, like the boy and the wolf, rebound upon himself or some unfortunate traveller. The joke had already become nauseous ; but reached the climax last night (or this morning), between 1 and 4, when a double repetition of the dose was administered for the good of the toll-keeper's health. Perhaps he thought the rougher the night the better the joKe. — I am, &c, Nocturnal.
