Burmah Insurrection. Rangoon, June 4.
Information has been received that a party of Burmese rebels, M r ho have been on a foraging expedition, but "S\ ere defeated in the encounter with the Burmese troops, have crossed the frontier into Briti&h territoiy. The insurrection in Independent Burmah is rapidly extending. A severe encounter has taken place between a force of Burmese Government troops and a body of rebels. Four companies of British regiments which were ordered to the f 1 ontier of British Burmah, have already started.
Constantinople, June 4. The $ight Hon. Mr. Goschen, the newly appointed special Ambassador to the Porte, had an audience to-day with the Sultan. Mr Goschen hoped the Sultan would take speedy steps to bring about the necessaiy reforms in Turkey, so that the prosperity of his subjects of all races and religious freedom might be assured. It has not transpired what answer was returned by the Sultan.
