THE SAPIEN T COUNCILLORS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — In Tuesday's issue I see a letter from " A Burgc&s." He is quite correct in what he says regarding the motion proposed by Mr Vialou, whose conduct in making the statement he did, viz.: "that another public body (the Domain Board) having a disputed survey account with Mr Sandes was a good reason for not employing that gentleman to take a few levels foy the Borough Council," 1 consider puerile in the extreme. He could not have been sincere when he said it, and none of the Councillors thought he was. Personal matters are at the bottom of the whole thing, and* Mr Vialou might save himself the trouble of making a childish excuse in order to try and blind the general, public. - One thing, at any rate, the burgesse3 will tind out, and that 13 that Mr Vialou's conduct in this matter will cost the Borough more than they can afford to waste just now. — I am, &c, T. G. Sandes.

Tun new Pure Cash System now being 1 initiated by G. and C. will certainly prove a benefit to the public. It has been a great success in Sjdney and Melbourne, and when strictly carried out the customer who buys at #n establishment where the goods are marked low'to ensure a rapid sale must be .1 great gainer. G. and C. sell their drapery, milhnary, and clothing at such prices for cash as gives the buyer the advantages of a shareholder in a co-operative society, without the risk of being called Upon td bear aportion of the loss should the year's business pc£V£ unsatisfactory. Garlick and Cranwell will aim to retain the confidence which the public have hitherto shown them, and are detirmined to give the pure cash system a fair trial ; whether they gain or lose the first year. .Country buyers on remitting cash with order will be supplied with goods at co-operative prices ; just the same as though they made a personal selection.
