BUGGY ACCIDENT.

An accident .happened on Thursday evening which might have been attended with serious results. Messrs Kennedy Hill and W. M. Hay were aeturning from the Cambridge races in a buggy belonging to the former, and reached Leslie's Cutting just about dusk. "When descending the embankment, they perceived two horsemen coming up, and, although they shouted out to them to keep clear, no notice was taken of the warning, and tile riders continued to come on, taking the right side of the roadway, and keeping well on it. As both parties were going -it a smart rate, a collision ensued between the buggy and the nearest horse, nearly turning the vehicle over the bank. Ihe man, who appeared to be the worse for liquor, called out that his horse's leg was broken, but, as he was subsequently seen on the animal's back at the top of the cutting, such could not well have been the case. The concussion, judging by the amount of damage done to the near forewheel of the buggy — which was bent outwards far enough to break several of the spokes, — was quite sufficient to have broken the leg of an elephant. After an examination had been made into the extent of the damage, MiHay took a seat in another buggy which happened to be passing at the time, and Mr Hill drove safely into Hamilton. The wheel will have to undergo repairs before it can again be used. The accident was, of course, owing to the horsemen taking the wrong side of the road when too late for the driver of the buggy to steer clear of them.
